Training Camps at Monmouth RC

What we offer?

Monmouth Rowing Club is situated on the banks of the River Wye, in an area of outstanding natural beauty. The scenery and flight of the kingfishers can be distracting!

The Club is less than 200m from the nearest pub, and about 500m from the top of the vibrant high street.  The town has many independent retailers, plus M&S, Waitrose, and Iceland; on the other side of the river from the club is Lidl [about 600m away].

Monmouth is easily accessible from the midlands [M50/A40], the south [M4/A449].

The river sees very little powered traffic – the exception being coaches launches from the 3 clubs that share the stretch of water, albeit 2 of these are local schools so most day times the river is clear.  The river is wide enough to accommodate two eights racing side by side.

We have beautiful 2,500m stretch of the River Wye; there is one bend with 1,500m virtually straight. At higher river levels it is safe to navigate, up-stream, approximately 6km to a local landmark, Biblins Rope Bridge.

We have a large private area for trailer parking, boat storage, and rigging.

Two well maintained 15hp motor launches with console steering plus a smaller rib are available.

The comfortable club room has space for warming up, meetings, and relaxing. This is next to the large kitchen, ideal for making hot food and drink.

Hot showers available all day, next to the ground floor changing rooms and toilets.

The ground floor also houses the gym; it has 18 well maintained ergos, 2 static bikes, and free weights.

Outside of school term time, access to all facilities is unrestricted; 24hrs per day. For safeguarding, we restrict access times to changing rooms during term time (first thing in the morning and late afternoon).

We are unable to offer accommodation.  However, there is a range of hotels/inns and camping available. There is a Premier Inn and a Wetherspoons, independent hotels such as Riverside and The Punch House and a boutique hotel (Creates) in town. Monmouth is a tourist destination so Airbnb and country cottages are available. Close to the club is a camp site, where you can hire the provided yurts/large tents or pitch your own (contact Monmouth Canoe Centre for details). For those on a tight budget we can organise access to one of our fields for camping (with no facilities).

The cost for the use of facilities at the club varies according to the number of days and athletes. The more days and/athletes, the lower the cost.
