With much of the squad away competing at the Euro Masters, Monmouth Rowing Club turned to some old — and in some cases, new — hands to fly the flag at this year's British Masters Regatta in Nottingham.
On Sunday the spotlight was on our sweep team, made up of Nick H, Bill D, Simon L, and Mark P, who have been training hard over recent weeks. Their commitment and energy were clear as they lined up to race in a demanding programme of events: the Open F4–, Open F4+ (with Hannah on board), and an Open E8+crew with Ross.

The British Masters Regatta is known for its intensity, and this year was no exception, with most events requiring qualifying rounds. The result? An incredible five 1 km races in a single day for the combination — a true test of endurance, focus, and teamwork.

Although no medals came home this time, the racing was fiercely competitive. The men’s coxless four missed out on the podium by a whisker, finishing less than five seconds off first place, while the eight were just four seconds away in another thrillingly close race.

Huge congratulations to everyone who represented the club so proudly, including new members Roger and Andy, who were racing under other colours this weekend. It was fantastic to see such strong performances and commitment across the board.
See you on the water.
I was there for the weekend too but as an umpire. Testing conditions on the Saturday but lighter winds for the most part on the Sunday.
