Wow, what a result! Monmouth Rowing Club was the top club at last week's British Rowing Masters Championship and with many great results across our crews we were awarded the Victor Ludorum (VL) as the 'winner of the games', beating over 134 other clubs. As well as the pride, the club will also receive £1000 thanks to Faster Masters Rowing sponsorship of the VL.

Held at the National Water Sports Centre near Nottingham, the British Masters Rowing Championship received over 820 entries and was raced over two days, with Monmouth entering over 30 crews and nearly forty rowers with diversity across gender, age and experience.

This was a tremendous whole club effort, but special mention must go to our Women’s Captain Liz for all her fantastic logistical planning to get so many crews and equipment to Nottingham and to our great coach, Tim Male, for preparing and developing our crews so well.

Full results are too many to name, but they are available on the British Rowing website. This gives you all the results, but you can use the filter to select just Monmouth races.

Golden highlights include the Men winning the Open E eights by just a second over Grosvenor RC, the Women winning the E/F eights , Mark SW winning the Open F Singles, Tim and Mark SW winning the Open D 2x, the Mx Non Championship (NC) D-F 4+, the Mx NC D-F 4x-, Alex and Toby in the Op NC D-F 2x, MJ and T in Womens NC G-K 2x and the Op NC D-F 4x- (which also saw a Monmouth first and second).

We also won medals in the Open E 4x and the Mx F Eight.

But as well as results, it was all about bringing a new group to the British Masters, many of whom only started to learn to row last year ( Mark) or the several partner combinations, such as

Sarah and Darren in the Mx NC D-F 2x and Nick and Kate in the Mx F 8+.

The Men’s squad was made up of Mark SW, Toby, Alex M, Lenny, Ewart, Mark L, Andy D, Scott, James, Julian, Nick, Darren, Andrew, Simon, Colin, Paul and Tim.

The Women’s squad was made up of Frances, T, Dawn, Julia, Mary, Liz L, Bonita, Ellen, Sara, Rachel, Sue, Shelagh, Helen, Liz N, Louise, Ali, Maggie, MJ, Sarah C and Kate H.

Thanks as always to Andrew, James and Paul for towing.

For those old enough to remember, it was certainly a First Class Return to Nottingham - Tunes!
