Monmouth Takes on the Lanes (and Wins!)
With blue skies above and a brisk tailwind behind us, Monmouth Rowing Club descended upon the six-lane, 1000m stretch at Nottingham City Regatta like ducks to water — fast, feathered and feisty.
The Singles Scullers – Brave and Brilliant
We fielded four power women in the singles: MJ, Frances L, Bonita, and Sue S, each showing their grit and grace under pressure. Sadly, Lottie had to bow out due to a last-minute bug (we missed you, Lottie!) — but Bonita and Sue bravely stepped into their first ever multi-lane showdown. For Sue, it was also her very first sprint regatta in a single. That’s right — nothing like jumping into the deep end at speed!

And what a result, with MJ wining her race and Frances getting mentioned in dispatches through her events.

For the men, Tim M kept up his usual high standard and won the D1x event.

It was also a multi-lane debut for Fliss H, whose cool composure helped guide her crew through the chaos that is a six-lane start.
Eights
Both Mens and Women's squads entered the eights events. Our Women’s Masters E VIII had the 'no training, no problem' approach down to an art form. Despite limited outings as a full crew, they lined up against four other determined boats, tucked into lane 5, and off we went.
The start? Decent, but not dazzling — they found ourselves in 4th. But oh, did we have a plan. And more importantly — they 'stuck to it'. With the calls coming in loud and clear (thanks, Tim, for the coaching cheat sheet), the crew responded perfectly. One by one, they picked off our competitors in the second half, surging through to claim 1st place in 3:58 — a tight race and a big win.

Fours
The men, not to be outdone, also managed to bring home some medals with a strong win the in the ME4+ with Ian, Mark, Paul B, James and cox Hannah.

As well as showing off their speed on the water, like many Monmouth crews, they had to show off their speedy pit changes, with many of the crews jumping straight into other boats.

As always, we must thank the weather gods for the sunshine, Nottingham City for hosting another great regatta, Tim for coaching and setting crews and Paul and James for towing (we had so many entries, we needed two trailers).
See you all on the water...next stop Monmouth Regatta on 24/25 May.
