Monmouth Regatta 2025: Sunshine, Splashes, and Smiles on the Wye
Ahoy, rowing enthusiasts! The countdown is on for Monmouth Regatta 2025 — set to be another fantastic weekend full of racing, riverbank picnics, and classic Monmouth charm. Crews from across the UK and beyond will descend on our beloved stretch of the Wye for two days of competitive rowing, camaraderie, and (hopefully) sunshine.
Saturday: The Long Haul
On Saturday, May 24th, the action will kick off with side-by-side racing over a 1250m downstream course. We’re expecting over 140 races, with strong representation from clubs like Cardiff University, City of Oxford, Hartpury University, and of course, our home crews. Watch out for the Women’s J14 4x+ — Monmouth Comprehensive’s young guns will be looking to make a splash.
Sunday: Sprint to the Finish
Sunday, May 25th, will see the return of the short-course sprints over 750m. With around 100 races on the schedule, it promises fast-paced, edge-of-your-seat rowing. We may even see a few dramatic finishes — perhaps even a re-row or two (last year’s over-60 masters double dead-heat is still the stuff of legend).
Rowing for Everyone
This year’s regatta will once again embrace inclusivity with adaptive rowing events planned across both days. Athletes of all abilities will take to the water, showing the true spirit of rowing. Expect big cheers and even bigger inspiration from the bank.
Racing for a Cause
As always, the regatta won’t just be about medals — it’ll also support a good cause. We’ll be raising money for charity through sales of donated rowing kit and other activities. So bring your spare change and help us make a difference.
A Club and Community Effort
Monmouth Regatta wouldn’t be possible without the tireless work of our volunteers, the generosity of our sponsors, and the energy of all our competitors . From umpires to bacon butty-makers, it’s a full-club effort — and one we’re proud to share with our wider rowing family.
See You There!
So polish your blades, prep your race plan, and don’t forget your sun cream (or umbrella — it is Wales, after all). We’ll see you on the riverbank for another unforgettable weekend.
And once the last race is rowed, we’ll already be looking forward to our next big bash — the Monmouth Autumn Head on September 28th. Save the date!
