What a way to kick off our 2026 social calendar! Last night, the clubhouse was packed to the rafters for our Quiz and Chilli Night. With all 65 tickets snapped up, the energy was high, the competition was fierce, and the chilli was—thankfully—not too fiery for our rowing lungs.
The Quiz: Traitors, Tunes, and Toupees
Our host for the evening, Alex M, truly went above and beyond. Not only did he keep us on our toes with a brilliant blend of traditional trivia, but he also took us on a trip down memory lane with a nostalgic TV theme tune round.
The real showstopper, however, was the "Traitors" themed picture round. Alex appeared in a full black wig to channel his inner Claudia Winkleman, tasking us with identifying club members from their teenage photos. Let’s just say some of you have aged like fine wine, while others... well, the photos were definitely a "banishment" worthy offense!

Rowing Together for a Great Cause
It wasn't all just laughs and hairpieces; we were there to support the next generation of rowers. Richard G organized a fantastic raffle in aid of the Monmouth Comprehensive School Boat Club.
Between the raffle tickets and the event entry, we are thrilled to announce that we’ve raised over £500 for the school (final amount to be confirmed after Phil does the numbers). A massive thank you to everyone who dug deep into their pockets to support such a vital part of our local rowing community.

A Huge Team Effort
Events like this don’t just happen by magic (though Alex’s wig might suggest otherwise). A massive shout-out goes to:
Liz L: For her stellar work organizing the entire evening.
Alex & Sue P: For running the quiz with such flair.
The Kitchen Crew: To everyone who cooked that delicious chilli, served up with a smile, and tackled the mountain of washing up afterward—we salute you!
The Bar Crew: Pulling pints and helping everyone cool their throats after the delicious chilli.

It was the perfect start to the year, proving once again that while we’re great on the water, we’re pretty unbeatable on land too. Here’s to many more socials in 2026!
