Euro Masters 2025 Day 3

European Masters Rowing Regatta – Day 3 Report from Lake Bled

Day 3 at Lake Bled served up a classic European Masters cocktail: searing heat, gusty crosswinds, and just enough chaos to keep things interesting. Crews spent the morning fiddling with riggers and raising gates like seasoned engineers, all in a bid to avoid being thumped by the choppy waves. And amidst the breeze and brawn, Monmouth kept the medals—and the drama—flowing.

Golden Moments

The club added three gold medals to its growing haul. In the F1x events, Roger and Mark each took top honours, showing once again that age really is just a number—especially when you're that fast. Meanwhile, the F4+ crew of Nick, Ian, Colin, James, and cox Liz powered their way to victory, with a flawless race and (some say) a few marriage counselling sessions squeezed in along the way.

Trophy Finalists

A huge shout out to Bonita and MJ, both of whom made it to their respective trophy single scull finals. They braved the rollers and the relentless sun to mix it up with the very best. Top effort from both.

A Bit of Seat-Swapping Shenanigans

In what can only be described as "musical chairs: rowing edition," the E4+ of Ian, Tim, Colin, and Toby had a last-minute seating shake-up. Tim made the on-water executive call that something wasn’t quite right—so Toby (in bow) and Tim (at 3) swapped seats mid-warmup. A daring manoeuvre, possibly inspired by Cirque du Soleil, but it worked. Sort of.

Agonisingly Close

The E8+ crew put in a mighty shift and missed out on a medal by just half a second to an Austrian national Masters crew. That’s less time than it takes to say “Monmouth Rowing Club,” and they should be proud of a blistering performance against top-tier competition. They even managed to capture the best bits for YouTube from the course drone.

Looking A head

The regatta wraps up tomorrow with five more races, many of them mixed events. Expect to see Monmouth’s eights and quads flying the flag, swapping seats (hopefully before launch), and aiming for the podium.

See you on the water and stay hydrated in this hot weather
