We are thrilled to announce that the Monmouth Rowing Club two-seater rowing tank is officially back in action! After a bit of TLC, it’s looking sharper than ever and is ready to help you find that perfect rhythm.

A massive "Three Cheers" goes out to Eric F and James A for their hard work on the refurbishment. They’ve done a stellar job making the space more functional and welcoming for everyone.

Why Use the Tank?

Whether you’re a complete beginner trying to figure out which end of the oar is which, or a seasoned pro fine-tuning your podium finish, the tank is an invaluable tool.

With the addition of new lighting and mirrors, you can now see every detail of your technique. It is quite literally the best way to:

  • Perfect your catch: See exactly how the blade enters the water.

  • Sync your stroke: Work on timing with a partner in a controlled environment.

Pro-Tips for Your Session

Before you jump in, here are a few pointers to keep things running smoothly:

  • Let there be light: The light switch is located next to the cabinet where the safe and cox boxes are kept.

  • Pick your configuration: The tank is versatile! It can be set up for two stroke sides, two bow sides, or—most commonly—the "push-me-pull-you" style (one stroke side and one bow side facing opposite directions).

Note: If you’re changing the setup, you may need to move the feet and the planks the slides sit on.

Treat it like the real deal:

Even with holes cut in the blades to reduce resistance, it’s still a physical workout. Please warm up just as you would for a session in the boat to keep those muscles happy.

No booking required: It’s first-come, first-served! Just keep in mind it tends to get a bit busier during school outings.

Housekeeping 🧹

To keep the facility in top shape for the next crew, please remember two small things when you’re done:

1. Switch off the lights.

2. Put the blades back. They live on the bracket above the tank.

See you in the tank! Let’s make this season our most technical one yet.
